Jackson

I have been MIA for the last 2 weeks, for good reason. I've been out of town (hardly on my computer). The first week, Spring Break, Bryce and I were in...

Jackson, Wyoming!
I've never been on a multi-day ski vacation, so it was very new to me. AKA I was extremely sore in muscles that I didn't even know could get a work out from skiing.

Before we went, we had a few decisions to make. We knew we wanted to go somewhere on Spring Break for 4-5 days. We also knew we wanted to go skiing/snowboarding out west. But there are soooo many places in Colorado, Montana, Utah, and others, that we didn't know where to begin. After researching and knowing that we wanted it to be the cheapest possible, we decided on Jackson, Wyoming. It's not as popular as some ski resorts in Colorado and Utah, but it is known for being just as good. Plus, the town itself is very quaint and fun. PLUS we wouldn't have to rent a car! Other than the transportation from the airport to our fancy Motel 6, we didn't pay anything for transportation. There's a free bus that goes all over town and with our college student ski multi-day passes, we had a free bus to/from the mountain. Score!

The first day was basically me going a few yards, falling, going, falling. I didn't realize there was such a huge difference between blue and double blue trails. It also may have something to do with the fact that it snowed 14 inches the night before. I am not used to skiing in deep powder! The skiing definitely feels different out west, compared to the east coast. Bryce was patient with me as I took forever fumbling around with my poles and skis after every fall. That night, I was so worn out that we ordered pizza in the room and went to bed.

By the second day, I got the hang of it and had a lot more fun.

For four days, we were on the mountain skiing/snowboarding and then going downtown eating and exploring in the evenings.

Downtown Jackson is like an old western town. It's known for it's elk antler arches, the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar with saddles for bar stools, and traces of wildlife every where, which we found in almost all the stores.

The historic Wort Hotel downtown was beautiful inside.

We found a fun coffee shop to read a book in.

The last day, by recommendation from Bynum, we went on a sleigh ride through the elk refuge. I mean, how often do you get to go on a sleigh ride AND see huge elk a few feet away?

Many more pictures here.

  1. how fun! After visiting this summer John and I said we would love to go back in winter to see Jackson covered in snow. It looks beautiful! Did you ski Snow King? We hiked it one day before we began to camp/hike through the Tetons and it was quite a workout! :)

  2. Kurt and I went there our last year of college. We met up with my brother and sister in law and niece. My sister in law broke her leg the day before we got there and had to have surgery. So...we still had fun but we didn't do as much as planned. Glad you guys had a good time!! I would love to go back!
