Moravian Christmas Lovefeast

On our way to Greensboro for the night about a week before Christmas, we stopped in Winston Salem to go to a service at the Moravian church with my Dad and his girlfriend, Kim. Kim went to the Moravian church for years. The church is in Old Salem, the historic district of the city, similar to Old Town Alexandria. It's beautiful with a lot of history. When the Moravian Christian came to North America from Europe, Winston Salem was actually one of the two main headquarters for the denomination.

The service was called the "Moravian Christmas Lovefeast". It was beautiful, including hymns, scripture, choir music, bells, and even hot coffee and bread served to the congregation during the service. At the end, we lit candles and turned the lights off and the entire sanctuary was lit by our candles. The pastor talked about us being the light in the darkness of this world. It was awesome.

I finally got to meet one of Kim's sweet daughters, Amanda.

I have seen Moravian stars, but didn't realize that they are actually tied to the Moravian denomination and are an Advent or Christmas decoration. They were hung inside and outside many homes around Winston Salem.

I'm so glad we were able to go to the service!
