We went on our first hike with Madison last Saturday afternoon. It was...an adventure. The hike up was mostly uphill and difficult, Bryce with a backpack and me with a baby. She screamed and cried in her carrier for the first 15 minutes. Then she was out cold until we were *almost* to the top. She woke up fiercely hungry and began screaming again. She was so hungry that her scream was echo'ing off the trees. I quickly handed her to Bryce, mainly because my thighs were burning and I was exhausted. We made it to the top just as the sun was going down, gave her a bottle, snapped a couple pictures, and started down the mountain as fast as we could. Multiple times we said, "We should've left an hour earlier." Yes, this is true. We hiked the entire way down in the dark. With a 3 month old baby (who was sleeping most of the way down). With headlamps on (thank goodness). It was a 6.8 mile hike in total. The next day, I could barely walk. I felt like I had run a half-marathon.
Hopefully our next hike with her is better thought out and in warmer weather.
But we made it! Hopefully it is the first of many family hikes (in the day light).

| But the sun was just setting. It was really pretty. |
