Kid clothing trends

This is random, but relevant to those with kids.

There are a few staples for every kid's closet here in Switzerland.

1. Every baby must have bibs.  I'm not talking about the bibs we picture in the USA like this.

Of course, you can find those here, too.  But even more common are bibs that look like bandanas or hankies around the neck.  The most popular seem to be a muslin cotton, like a small blanket.  It's used as a "bib" around the neck or a burp cloth (or both at the same time).  They're easy to clean, catch more spit up than a typical bib, and I even put them on Maddie when she has a really runny nose so we can wipe her nose on it like a hankie.  You also see these with snap closures on them like below picture of Carter with "dude" on it.  I know you can find baby bandanas in the USA, but they're just not as common.  I've even seen regular cowboy bandanas for sale near the baby items which would work just the same way (but wouldn't be as soft on the skin as the ones specified for baby).

2. This picture brings me to my next item: tights.  Tights as a base layer for warmth are worn by BOTH boys and girls (I think from baby to maybe 3 years old or so).  I think this is genius, because this little stinker pulls off or kicks off his socks even on the coldest days.  His pants also ride up leaving his calves bare in the cool air.  I have tights for both of the kids now.  I've heard that even at the kinderkrippe (daycare), they will let the kids run around inside and play in their tights so they don't have to fully dress and undress when they go outside.

3.  Waterproof bib pants.  These are an absolute necessity here for toddlers and it seems like every kid has at least one pair.  I mainly got them for her forest play group.  These are really nice because it keeps her fully warm and dry, they have a strap to keep them semi attached to her boots, and she can literally sit in the mud to play.  I've even seen parents bring them to play grounds and put them on their kids to play in the sandbox (which sometimes seem like dirt boxes rather than sand boxes).  I got these pink ones at H&M for not too much.

I love all three of these items for the little ones.  Thought you'd like to know about kid fashion here (and another excuse to show some cute pictures of my littles!)

  2. I made some of those bib/bandanas for Will this summer and want to make more - maybe over christmas break. I really love them for all the reasons you mentioned! I guess I am so Swiss! BUT the tights for boys?! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT. Do they have lots of boyish colors? The ones in the pic look very manly on Carter :)
