Baby boy projects

I bought the fabrics that I loved for the little one and they sat there in the office/nursery for weeks.  I just stared at them.  Finally, I decided to go after it and make March my sewing month.

Minky blanket...

I just looked up a bunch of minky blankets on Etsy to see what sizes people normally do.  Then I cut the fabric and just started sewing.  Sewing with the soft minky is hard!!  It stretches weird and pins are very important.  A lot of the blankets don't have seams down the middle, but it was moving all over and driving me nuts, so I went ahead and sewed 3 straight lines down the middle to hold it together.  I love it!  It's so soft and cuddly.  Plus, the fabric makes me think of taking a walk on a brisk day with 2 little cuties in our double stroller.  Surprisingly, this minky blanket was completed in one sitting, maybe a total of a couple hours.  Bryce graciously gave me a Saturday "off" so I locked myself in the office, listened to music, relaxed, cut, and sewed.  Alone time has become very precious to me even though I consider myself an extrovert!

Boppy pillow cover...

This was harder.  I used this tutorial.  It was my first time sewing a zipper because I didn't want it to have a "pocket"opening.  Well, it's obvious that it was my first time and I need to go back and fix it because it's oddly sticking out.  I just don't have the motivation to do it right now.  It will still function completely fine, it's just my OCD nature that will be bothered by it every time I use it.

The makings of a quilt...

It took me forever to decide what pattern to choose for his quilt.  I loved so many quilts that I saw on Pinterest.  Finally, I saw this one and thought it was simple enough for me to take a stab at it.

I also could not for the life of me choose a size for the quilt.  Should it be a baby quilt?  A toddler quilt?  A lap quilt?  I wanted it to have a long lifetime.  I decided on a lap/toddler quilt.   I looked at this list of common quilt sizes for reference.  That way, he can use it as a blanket later and as a baby, we can just fold it in half.  I basically came up with my own measurements for the pattern in an excel spreadsheet.  Then I cut my fabric.  It takes a long time to cut fabric.  There's definitely a technique to it-ironing, folding, cutting, repeat.  You can't cut too many layers but if you do individual layers at a time, it takes forever.  And here I am.  A pile of cut fabric waiting to be made into a quilt (minus the white lines that still need to be cut).  I'm afraid I'll probably box up my sewing machine until after the baby and the big move.  So it will be awhile before I have any finished quilt.

Now we just sit and wait for baby Carter to make his big entrance into this world.
