He can sign "more" and "all done", wave, clap, blow kisses, high five, and understands a lot more than we know. He knows who we (three) are, he understands things like "do you want to go outside?" or "bathtime" or "eat/drink" or "go get the ball/car." He can say "uh oh" ("uh uh") when he drops (or intentionally throws) things, he can say "ball" ("bah"), and even though they sound similar, he says "Maddie" and "Thank you" ("dah dee"). He can also say "more" ("moh").
He's pulling up on everything but isn't super steady. He loves balls-he throws and rolls them. He loves cars and trucks. He loves playing in sand. He loves his bike that we got him for his birthday. Now at 13 months, he is cruising on everything-walking around holding on to things to keep steady. He loves his walker toy that Nana and Papa got him for Christmas. He goes in circles around the family room and kitchen then back again.
He had 5 teeth at 12 months, and now at 13 months, he has 7 teeth.
He also constantly has bumps, bruises, and scrapes all over.
Eating
It's really strange lately and I'm not sure whether we have a picky eater or not. One day, he loves a banana, the next, he doesn't want it near his mouth. Last night, he didn't want pureed sweet potatoes and for lunch today, he ate chunks of sweet potato and rice out of my Thai curry leftovers (not spicy). Many times, he has taken a bottle of whole milk from me before nap or bedtime no problem. Although, the bottle needs to be warm (Maddie never cared whether it was warm, cold, formula, milk, whatever-she took it.) Sometimes, he doesn't want anything to do with the bottle and only wants to breastfeed. With that said, he never refuses to breastfeed and seems like he would forever if I would let him.
Now at 13 months, for some reason, he is eating much better. He eats all sorts of things but still likes them cut up small or to be relatively soft to bite off. He also loves goldfish now.
Sleeping
At 12 months, he was going down around 7:30pm, waking at about 10pm to nurse, then down until about 6am. A few nights a week, he would even go 7:30pm until 6am without waking at all. Then we went on a big trip home to the USA for 2 weeks and we are starting at square one again. While traveling, all routine goes out the window and we do whatever it takes to get everyone the most sleep possible-kids sleeping in dark closets so the sun doesn't wake them, nursing more often, and just accepting multiple sleep interruptions throughout the night because of traveling and sickness (which usually follows us traveling). So, we've been home in Switzerland almost a week now and we are sleep training (aka mommy sadly putting ear plugs in). It seems that he is getting better each day, according to Bryce who may or may not actually hear him.
He is as sweet as always. As expected, this year has FLOWN by and I cannot believe our baby is becoming more of a toddler every day. He is really coming into his own with personality and character. He loves making us laugh and loves fake laughing when we laugh. He also loves expressing himself with grunts and cute baby talk.

What a great update with awesome pictures! Forgot to tell you I fully weaned Will 2 weeks ago. He also would have gone on forever I think! What a sweet boy - just wish I got to spend time with him!
ReplyDeletehe is super, super cute.
ReplyDeletealso, this is random but i've always wondered about the ear plugs thing -- i was always curious about how that worked (i have terrible sleepers, after all). then last night it occurred to me that YOU wear ear plugs but bryce doesn't! such a great idea!!
(it suddenly made sense bc sometimes mary virginia cries in the night and i only hear it bc i'm up feeding thomas, and tom sleeps right through it. somehow that made it all click!)
