Pizol Heidi Trail hike

Oh, I miss those mountains and Saturday hikes!!!  There are more memories that I can count where Bryce and I both thought to ourselves, "Is this real life?  This doesn't even look real!!" I am so thankful that we took advantage of every free day to see more and do more, whether or not we were going to be there for 18 months of 5 years.  Here's one of the last hikes we took while the weather was still warm.

In late September (or maybe October...), we went on such a fun hike.  I had been wanting to go to the Heidi area for awhile.  After all, Heidi is so quintessentially Switzerland.  There's a little Heidi village, which we didn't have time for.  But we went up the mountain on the other side of the valley called Pizol.  The entire area is somewhat dedicated to Heidi.

We stopped at the mountain top restaurant right after we got to the top.  We hoped full bellies would lure them to sleep in the backpacks.

The trail had stations-I think you got some sort of letter or worksheet and every goat had a stamping contraption so you could get all the stamps on the trail and put your letter in the box for Heidi.

The top of the mountain-where you get off the cable car-was amazingly beautiful with 2 restaurants and a playground.

We really had to pull them away from the play ground to start the hike.

There were "stations" along the trail that made it such an adventure for the kids.  This first one was so cool.  You took off your shoes and played this game.  You would spin these wheels to see which way you would go and would walk barefoot through different media (bark, gravel, rocks, sand, mulch).

Another "station" was a wooded area with maybe 20 different hammocks or swings among the trees.

This is the top where you just get off the cable car.

Aaaaand he's finally asleep :-)

This is one of my favorite pictures because it's so rare to get a good photo of all of us.
These pictures take me back...

It's so funny how normal cable cars became for these kids.

  1. Wow. Just breathtaking like always. The stations sound so fun! Also love how normal the whole experience was for the kids. They'll treasure these photos one day and be amazed at all they got to do!

  3. WE'll miss Switzerland, but you have taken us a great journey. Can't wait to see what journeys you will have now.
