We Love Lamys

Kyle and Cayce moved to Boulder, CO about two months ago.  The moment we found out that they were moving, we said, "So, how soon can we come visit?"

We were planning on going on a big hiking trip with them to Nova Scotia this summer for a couple weeks.  But then we got pregnant.  And then they moved to Colorado.  The obvious decision was to make the trip out there since there's plenty of beautiful hiking opportunities.  With them living out there, we could also take it easy if I needed to.

Bryce sees this as our Last Hiking Hurrah.  I hope this is not the case.  I've done day hikes and it's been okay so far.  I definitely need to stop more often for breaks and catching my breath.  My lungs feel like they have been shrunk to half of normal size before-baby lungs.  Being pregnant without baby, I catch myself saying, "Oh well we'll do that with the baby.  We'll go there with the baby.  It'll be okay,.....right?"  Riiiight.  Hello, Elissa-who-isn't-a-mom-yet.  I hope very much that we will have a flexible baby and enjoy many of the things we enjoy now.  I also know that I don't have experience in this area and I have no clue what our baby will be like.  Every parent hopes their baby will be flexible and easy going.  I am just another hopeful parent.  I tend to build high expectations for almost anything and tend to get let down.  But since being married to Bryce who lives more on the side of realism (sometimes pessimism-he'll be the first to admit), he brings me back to earth.

Back on topic. So we got on a plane to Boulder to see the Lamys with our hiking backpacks full and our Colorado maps aplenty.  Just an idea for you on how much we carried:

Oh and don't worry, the doctor gave me the clear for all three: elevation, exercise, and carrying weight.  Her words were, "You were exercising normally before you got pregnant and you seem to be in good shape.  Your pregnancy has been very textbook, so I'm not worried about it at all.  You may be uncomfortable carrying a backpack and will probably need to take breaks often to catch your breath, but I'm not worried about it."

We stayed in Boulder for a few days to work and visit with the Lamys.  Bryce actually also visited with a NIST contact from one of their labs located in Boulder.  This is a potential postdoc and he wanted to hear more about it.  Exciting!  I think the Lamys are pulling out all the moves to get us to move here.  Bryce was sold on the idea before we even left the airport.  We'll see where Bryce's work takes us.

More to come about our adventure out west...
