Carter: 5 months old

Our little guy.  He is such a sweetheart.  His personality is calm and happy, he loves to be with people, and he loves being held.  He is very curious.  When you give him a toy, he carefully studies it and passes it between hands.  He is observant and alert.

He smiles so easily and laughs when we tickle him, especially his thighs and neck.  He is getting better at rolling over when coaxed with a toy or rattle.  He really wants to sit up on his own and can pretty easily if he is propped with something.

Sleep

It wasn't until the last couple weeks when we returned from our trip to the States that we have started get into a normal pace.  We are settling into a good routine for both kids, which we have graciously welcomed since our life for the past 6 months has been nothing short of crazy.  He is napping 2-3 times a day.  One longer nap around 2 hours and the others are usually 30-40 minutes.  We are trying to "sleep train" (but I use that term loosely...) by lengthening time between feedings (aka Ferber Method) with some crying it out.  He has been waking up 3 times almost every night.  He goes down around 7 or 8pm and wakes at 11ish, 2ish, and 5ish.  Then he wakes up for good around 6-7am.  It's been hard to sleep train him since I know that I can easily wake up, feed him and be back in bed within 8 minutes.  At the same time, I dream of a full night's sleep.  I really don't remember what it's like to sleep all night.

Eating

We have come leaps and bounds in the eating department.  He wasn't eating solids well at all when he turned 4 months.  He gagged at everything and had no interest.  We went to the States for 2 weeks and took a break from eating solids for almost 3 full weeks.  When we got back, I tried again and everything changed.  He was pulling my hand/the spoon towards his mouth, he was actually swallowing with every bite, and he started following food with his eyes when he watched us eat.  It's amazing how well he is doing now.  I feed him once a day.  I've tried banana, apple, oatmeal, sweet potato, and carrots.  I'm hoping this also helps with sleeping longer stretches.

He brings everything to his mouth lately.  He especially loves playing and chewing on his feet or hands.  I love this.
