Kentucky Camping

The last weekend in June, we took a drive to Kentucky and camped at Yatesville Lake State Park. We loved the location. The lake was nice, not too crowded, and very quiet with no houses on the lake (since it's a state park I guess?). If you find yourself itching to camp in Kentucky, we'd recommend this place! Dad drove to Blacksburg, picked Bryce and I up, and we drove there on Thursday night just before nightfall. Emily, Tim, and Abby drove down from Cincinatti to meet us there on Friday. The campsites were exactly what we were looking for. We were looking for a secluded tent campsite right on the lake. It was great with Dad's boat, especially since the campsites were only accessible by boat (or almost a 2 mile hike)!

We had an AMAZING time, but we really missed Amy and Aaron! Amy is working hard this summer as a Gap girl by day and a waitress by night. Aaron is in Florida on Summer Project with Campus Crusade for Christ.

We had delicious meals, thanks to Dad's genius, including but not limited to: rib eye steaks, bruschetta, grilled zucchini, cucumber tomato salad with balsalmic vinegarette, BBQ chicken breasts, wine, corn on the cob, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, pancakes, hot dogs, brats. Dad surprised us with a little trick. We brought our french press for coffee in the morning, but he made his tried and true "camp coffee" by cooking it in a kettle, grinds and water. Then, just pouring a little cold water on the top, and almost all the grinds fell to the bottom!

It was Abby's first time camping and she LOVED it. One of her favorite things was the tent. She kept on wanting to play in the tent all day.

We all went fishing out on the boat. Everyone caught at least one fish. Mostly crappy and bluegill. It must be a pretty big fishing lake, because there was a serious bass tournament on the lake all day Saturday. Fishing was so much fun!!

The only thing that would've made it better (aside from Amy and Aaron being there) would have been less heat. It was beautiful and sunny all weekend, but nights were HOT. It was pretty humid, too. It seemed like we went swimming every 15 minutes to cool off. The water felt great though.

I think we wore Abby out with all the fun we had. By the end of the weekend, we were all pretty tuckered out.

You can look at a lot more pictures from the weekend HERE.
